About Our Community Board
Building Community By Design
Great environments don't happen by accident. They're built carefully, intentionally, and with the right people in the room.
Every founder, funder, and team we welcome should uphold Resident member qualities and elevate the collective: people who lead with a give-first mindset, build ambitiously, stay open-minded, and have the sensibility to read a room and contribute thoughtfully.
To stay true to that vision, we've brought together a small group of respected leaders in the startup community space to help guide our membership standards.
Why We Screen Differently
Most coworking spaces take anyone with a credit card. We take a different approach. Each location at Resident cultivates its own distinct community from AI and tech founders in Madison Park to consumer brands in Union Square. Our Membership Committee evaluates companies based on their compatibility with the specific location's ecosystem, not just Resident's overall values.
This means your neighbors aren't random. They're companies and investors who share your sector focus, growth stage, and commitment to relationship-driven business building.

What the Committee Does
The Membership Committee meets quarterly to set strategic direction for our workspace communities. We review membership criteria, evaluate location-specific culture fit, and refine our selection process as our ecosystem evolves.
We also review edge cases: companies that don't fit all our criteria on paper but demonstrate the values and commitment we're looking for. Sometimes the best members are the ones who don't check every box but bring something unique to the community.
If you're not sure whether you're a fit, apply anyway. We'd rather have the conversation than have you self-select out.
